McClarrons continued their support of the Bright Young Star award again at this year’s Malton & Norton Pride Awards.
Once again, the awards saw huge support from the local community; this year over 200 guests attended the event which was held on 5th November at The Old Lodge in Malton. Finalists and guests were welcomed to the event with a drinks reception before Grace was given by Canon John Manchester and guests sat down to enjoy a 2 course dinner.
Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, opened the evening with a short speech emphasising the importance of communities working together in uncertain times, and the significance of people, organisations and businesses coming together to support one another. The evening’s Master of Ceremonies, Mark Smith, then proceeded to announce the winners of the awards:
- Bright Young Star – Chloe Shipley
- Little Star Award – Alexia Ellis
- Volunteer of the Year – Sarah Tyson (Ryedale Book Festival)
- Business Personality of the Year – Michelle Walker (Groovy Moo)
- Food & Drink – The New Malton

- Customer Service – Kim Robertshaw (Ryedale District Council)
- Dedication to Sport – Bill Laidler & Poppy Rudd

- Local Hero – Melvin Walton

After the awards, a charity raffle and auction were held to raise money for the two charities supported by this year’s event: LIAM and The Rob Stephenson Trust. The raffle and auction raised around £2000, which will be split equally between the two.
Due to the success of the Pride Awards over the years, this year’s event saw a new category – Charity of the Year, the winner of which, Acorn Community Care, was presented with a £1000 donation from Maton & Norton Community Events.
Kevin Hollinrake said of the night: “A fantastic event that recognised the huge efforts that individuals and organisations make towards to the wider Malton and Norton community. The organisers, sponsors, supporters and all the nominees deserve huge credit and I was delighted to attend and add my thanks to all those involved.”
Chloe Shipley, this year’s winner of the Bright Young Star Award, commented on her win: “I was honoured to be nominated for the Bright Young Star award, and even more honoured to have won it. When my my mum died back in 2001 I always wanted to do something in her memory so the fundraising in which I have done over the past few years is a tribute to her. To date I’ve raised £17,000 and I am determined to keep going. I’d like to thank everyone who took part in organising the event, it was a pleasure to be a part of it!”
Steven Swift, Development Manager at McClarrons added: “It is great to see how much the Pride Awards mean to the local community. This year the event sold out in just two days, with over 200 guests in attendance – this is fantastic! The Pride Awards offer a great opportunity to be able to acknowledge and thank those that make a true difference to our community and we are delighted to have sponsored the Bright Young Star Award – well done Chloe!”

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the finalists and winners of this year’s awards!
