Pride of Malton & Norton Awards 2015

Saturday 24th October saw The Old Lodge play host to the 6th annual Pride of Malton and Norton Awards, including the McClarrons-sponsored Bright Young Star Award. Every year the awards honour members of the local community and this year was the biggest and best yet.

Nearly 200 people attended the event at The Old Lodge Hotel in Malton (including the team at McClarrons) where they were greeted with a glass of Bucks Fizz on arrival and then treated to a 2-course meal and drinks. There was a fireworks display and a charity auction with a number of great goodies up for grabs including a three-course meal at Malton Brasserie, the chance to be a DJ on Vale Radio and even a bottle of House of Commons whisky signed by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Organizer Mandy West weighed in on the event, saying: “This year’s Pride of Malton & Norton Awards was once again a great success, without local businesses sponsoring each category the awards wouldn’t be able to go ahead. The charity raffle and auction raised £2,000 which will be split between this year’s chosen charities, Ryedale Special Families & 4Louis.”

This year 10 awards were granted to the stars of Malton and Norton and, as ever, McClarrons proudly sponsored the Bright Young Star Award. This year the competition was so tight that the prize actually went to two winners. Presented by Emily Andrews, the award was jointly won by 17-year-old Hannah Richardson, a pupil at Kirkham Henry Performing Arts and 17-year-old Matt Woollons, who attended Malton School and is a member of the magic circle. Others nominated were Joe Anderson, president of Malton School’s sixth form students and Lauren Heslington, who is halfway through her advanced apprenticeship at Derwent Training Association.

Sean McClarron, director of McClarrons, was delighted with the night. He said: “The Pride of Malton Awards were a fantastic night with a great cause. It’s so important to recognise the great things local people do and to encourage young talent. That’s why we proudly sponsor the Bright Young Star award every year and we’re always delighted to see such potential rewarded. I’d like to say a huge ‘congratulations’ to Hannah and Matt, and to all of the other winners and nominees, for showing exactly what makes Malton and Norton so great.”

We can’t wait until next year!
