The Campaign for Wool’s 7th annual UK Wool Week takes place from 10th – 16th October 2016, uniting producers, retailers and customers to celebrate the benefits of natural wool.
Launched in 2010, The Campaign for Wool is run by a coalition of industry groups convened by HRH The Prince of Wales and aims to educate consumers nationally about the benefits of wool and wool-rich products. The sheep farming sector employs more than 33,000 people on UK farms, with a net benefit to the economy of £465.9m per year. Renewable, biodegradable and naturally anti-static, wool is certainly a fibre worth celebrating – but a boost in publicity is always welcome to raise awareness of the British wool farming industry’s consistently hard work.
Comprising a plethora of events across the country, including pop-up shops and a screening of new documentary ‘Alex James: Slowing Down Fast Fashion’, this year’s Wool Week also sees Woolly Hat Day take place on Friday 14th October. Encouraging those in-the-know to host an event based around woolly garments, from wool farmers to knitting-enthusiasts, the day also raises funds for The Mission to Seafarers.
If you’re getting involved, you can donate by texting WOOL11 to 70070 and share pictures on social media using #WoollyHatDay.
As an enthusiastic supporter of the UK’s rural and farming community, McClarrons would like to wish you all a wool-filled week.
