{"id":4067,"date":"2019-02-01T10:59:48","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T10:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.networkportfolio.co.uk\/edwardsinsurance.co.uk?p=4067"},"modified":"2019-02-01T10:59:48","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T10:59:48","slug":"snow-ice-stay-safe-cold-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.networkportfolio.co.uk\/edwardsinsurance.co.uk\/church\/snow-ice-stay-safe-cold-weather\/","title":{"rendered":"Snow &#038; Ice: Stay safe in the cold weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tWhether you run a business or charity, are responsible for buildings such as churches or shops or just simply a homeowner, you\u2019ll want to keep yourself and others around you safe in inclement weather.<\/p>\n<p>With snow forecast across most parts of the UK this week, we have drawn together our top cold weather tips to help you take care of your buildings as well as your people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your boiler is maintained, serviced and in good working order so that you can heat your building to a constant low temperature.\u00a0 You can use a thermostat to maintain the temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Check that all of the pipes and tanks in the building are working and well insulated so that they don\u2019t freeze.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you and any employees\/volunteers know where the water supply stopcock is, in case of an emergency.\u00a0 You\u2019ll probably find this under the sink!\u00a0 Any drippy taps should be repaired \u2013 a drip could freeze and block the pipes!\u00a0 Outside taps should be drained during the cold weather to prevent freezing too.<\/li>\n<li>Create a clear path of at least a metre in width to the door of your building.\u00a0 Shovel the snow away and grit the area well.<\/li>\n<li>Clear snow to make space for outward opening fire escape doors to open.<\/li>\n<li>If you are responsible for employees or volunteers, make sure you have a communication plan in place to let them know whether they are required on days where journeys to work may seem too treacherous.<\/li>\n<li>Take care on the roads.
